Q&A with Stonehill hockey player Bryan Rooney

By Kate McCarthy

Bio
Bryan Rooney, a current sophomore at Stonehill College, is one of the key members of the men’s ice hockey team. A Canton native, Rooney played both ice hockey and baseball at Canton High School, where he was a Hockomock League All-Star in both sports.
As a freshman at Stonehill, Rooney was a member of the NE-10 All-Rookie Team, as well as earning the distinction of Rookie of the Year. This year, he finished 11th overall in the NE-10 in goals scored, with eight.
What is your favorite sports memory at Stonehill?
My favorite sports memory at Stonehill is this year in the semi finals of the NE-10 championship. We ended up winning the game 3-1. In the first period I was put out on the penalty kill and I scored a shorthanded goal. It was the first time I was out there on the penalty kill all year, so to score that goal, which eventually became the game winning goal, that was really special to me.
Who is your favorite athlete and why?
Nathan Horton of the Boston Bruins is my favorite athlete, I’ve always been a big fan of him The way he plays the game, the way he handles himself off the ice, he’s really a true team player, so that’s something that I really love about him
